Green Strategies For Building Design

G5 - INFOGRAPHIC POSTER_page-0001.jpg
Project 1 : Passive Green Building Case Studies Poster & Booklet

In groups of five, students must select two architectural case studies (3–5 storeys high) showcasing passive sustainable design strategies—one from a tropical climate and one from another climate type (Arid, Mediterranean, Temperate Continental, or Polar). They will identify and compare strategies in site planning, daylighting, façade design, natural ventilation, and strategic landscaping, then analyse how these influence spatial quality and user experience. The final submission includes an A0 infographic poster, a 20–25 page A4 landscape booklet with text, diagrams, sketches, drawings, and images, plus a 5-minute pre-recorded presentation summarising the poster content.

Project 2 :Passive Green Building Strategies Report – Integration with ADIV

Students are required to integrate both passive and active green building strategies into their final architectural studio project. This involves writing a reflective piece on lessons learned from the green building visit and Assignment 1, and explaining how these strategies will be applied in their own design. They must implement all relevant passive strategies from their tropical case study in Assignment 1—such as site planning, daylighting, façade design, natural ventilation, strategic landscaping, and renewable energy use—wherever possible. All processes and the final proposal must be compiled into an A4 reflective write-up and an A3 design report, both submitted in PDF format.

SELF-REFLETION

In this module, I learned how to apply both passive and active green building strategies to architectural design, focusing on creating environmentally responsive and energy-efficient buildings. I explored key passive approaches such as site planning, daylighting, façade design, natural ventilation, and strategic landscaping, as well as active systems like renewable energy integration. Through case studies, site visits, and design exercises, I gained an understanding of how different climate contexts influence sustainable strategies, and how these can be adapted to enhance spatial quality, user comfort, and environmental performance in my own architectural projects.
